Le Laetare des Blancs Moussis :

Preparations: Design and construction of floats, organizing of the rooms, preparation of the costumes, drafting of satirical posters, endowment of the Honour Guard, press conferences etc...

Laetare Saturday

An impressive and amusing parade of nearly a thousand participants. Various themes for many groups exclusively from Stavelot.

Sunday

* The Festivities Committee gives a reception in the chapter house at the abbey.
* Brotherly meal of the Blancs Moussis chapter.
* The Blancs Moussis parade in single file to the Rue Neuve more than 400 strong (children, adults, groups, floats, Emulation)
* A very colourful pageant made still livelier by some 30 Stavelot societies.

The Blancs Moussis throw confetti, dance, brandish bladders on pikes (and slap anyone at hand with them) mock, leap, growl, intrigue, imitate the spectators and tack their many satirical posters on houses and shop windows.

Blowpipe floats try to blast confetti through the rare open windows along the parade itinerary. Some 5 tonnes of confetti coat the streets, squares and gutters at the end of the day.

The Round of the Blancs Moussis is the climax of the parade as they circle the Perron des Libertés in Stavelot. To close, the Blancs Moussis lead the spectators in a fantastic jig.

When the parade is over, the Blancs Moussis host their Honour Guard in a remarkable endowment ceremony in the vaulted cellars of the abbey, and then in the chapter house.

The mâssi tour takes small groups of Blancs Moussis into private homes, to enliven the atmosphere, keep up the fun, and taste a little glass of wine.

The banquet is a traditionally a frugal meal in monastic style celebrating the warm friendship of the Blancs Moussis and their guests (newly endowed members, honour guard, festivities committee) in the chapter house at the abbey.

Fireworks attract thousands of spectators in the vicinity of the abbey.

Blancs Moussis night is the great closing ball that takes place in two different atmospheres, in two magnificent rooms in the abbey (the Romanesque room and the Guard Hall).
Les Flon-flon des Blancs Moussis entertain in the Guard hall, creating the special Blancs Moussis feeling.

Monday

A purely Stavelot parade wanders from pub to lunch counter, systematically ending with the closing ball for the Festivities Committee.
