After new prohibitions, only one get-up, a white one, would still be fairly close to the monks&#8217; habit. A long nose and a laughing mask would round off the costume.<\/p>\n<p>Today, this is a fairly well accepted legend that was bolstered further in 1947 when Walter Fostier, sometimes referred to as the author of this pseudo-historical fantasy, used it for the foundation of a brotherhood. As a friend of Stavelot and its folklore, he was also the one who created the superbly surprising Honour Guard in 1950.<\/p>\n<p>In the 19th century other societies had been established: les Gais Amis, l\u2019Orph\u00e9e, la Bourgeiose, L\u2019Emulation. Two marching bands are still particularly active now at the beginning of the 21st century.<\/p>\n<p>Times were hard at the end of the 19th-century, so the Laetare celebrations were an opportunity for highly appreciated social aid. This was also the beginning of the Artisans.<\/p>\n<p>During the first half of the 20th century, Stavelot-Attractions were very active in promoting tourism, leading to the development of Stavelot-Commerces. The Bons Amis were the driving force behind this new impetus, with the help of the St.-Laurent Committee, Orph\u00e9e, \u2026 Emulation and shortly afterwards, a Festivities Committee.<\/p>\n<p>After <strong>1945<\/strong>, 21 young men fostered the birth, or rather the rebirth, of the Blancs Moussis.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>1950<\/strong>, the Reveil Ardennais took part in Laetare.<\/p>\n<p>This was a great decade for the development of folklore and tourism.<\/p>\n<p>* Grosses T\u00eates de Parfondruy<br \/>\n* Quartier Saint-Louis<br \/>\n* Amis de la campagne de Masta<br \/>\n* Fran\u00e7ois Prume mixed choirs<br \/>\n* Quartier Saint-Laurent<br \/>\n* Emulation and the Bons Amis<br \/>\n* Joyeux Carnavaleurs<br \/>\n* La Dramatique de Masta<br \/>\n* La Colombe<br \/>\n* The festivities committee<br \/>\n* Blancs Moussis<\/p>\n<p>all these have made the rising star of Laetare one of the brightest in Walloon and European folklore. (40 000 people in 1954).<\/p>\n<p>As Laetare was prospering, the &#8220;golden 60s&#8221; promoted cultural development by initiating the Music Festival, the Theatre Festival (VTS); the Guillaume Apollinaire conferences, the &#8220;Religious Treasures&#8221; exhibit, the Spa-Francorchamps racetrack museum.<\/p>\n<p>A special aspect of Stavelot\u2019s Laetare is that it represents the collective work of an entire town<br \/>\n* Artisans R\u00e9unis<br \/>\n* Blancs Moussis<br \/>\n* Clownettes * Clowns Cyclistes<br \/>\n* Djoye\u00fbs Cooytais<br \/>\n* Djoye\u00fbs Pign\u2019te\u00fbs<br \/>\n* Emulation<br \/>\n* Grosses Ti\u00e8sses<br \/>\n* Jeunesse Stavelotaine<br \/>\n* Joyeux Lurons<br \/>\n* Mums<br \/>\n* Lollipops<br \/>\n* Luitons<br \/>\n* Orph\u00e9e<br \/>\n* R\u00e9veil Ardennais<br \/>\n* Ribambelle<br \/>\n* Saint-Louis<br \/>\n* Tch\u00e8ts d\u2019Nute<br \/>\n* V\u00e9t\u00e9rans<br \/>\n* Vive la F\u00eate<br \/>\n* Zygomars<\/p>\n<p>prance through the streets leading a parade of more than 2000 participants, most of them from Stavelot itself. One townsman out of three participates actively, making Stavelot the unchallenged capital of Laetare.<\/p>\n<p>The Walloon Region\u2019s determination to maintain its rich heritage and culture has also given new encouragement to the restored abbey and to Stavelot and its population.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The origins: 1502 : Birth of the Blancs Moussis.
