La Royale Fanfare d’Orphée
Since its creation in 1846, more than 170 years ago, the Royal Orpheus of Stavelot has become a key player and very active in the musical and cultural life of its region.
Traditions and folklore are still very much anchored in the life of this Society: every year at mid-Lent, it is at the head of the procession of LAETARE de STAVELOT that the Orphée presents his new repertoire of animation, arranged especially by his musical director. A new parade costume, created by a team of specialized seamstresses, is also inaugurated for this occasion.
In parallel to this animation and folklore section, the Orphée Royal Band, which has become a complete harmony orchestra over the decades, makes it a point of honor to present quality concerts by tackling a very wide repertoire. All musical styles are revisited: compositions or unpublished arrangements for orchestra of harmony, transcriptions of classical works, music of films or the directory of varieties …
The Orphée currently has more than fifty musicians, including many young people from the academies of the entities of Stavelot, Malmedy and Spa. It is classified in Excellence Division and is recognized by the Ministry of Culture of the Wallonia-Brussels Community (Art & Life Tours).
